Hi Haole,
I'd just like to know what, in your opinion, defines a great pilot from a mediocre one. And what qualities an individual has, that would make him a good fighter pilot.
Thanks,
(P.S. Iron Maiden kick ass :bounce: )

Iron Maiden...Aces High!!
Thanks for dropping in!
Qualities that make a good fighter pilot...hmmmm...confident but not cocky. Calm and able to handle stress easily. Good eyesight and able to think 3 dimensionally.
A good pilot knows he is the best. A mediocre one WONDERS if he is the best. You never go to a fight wondering if the other guy is better!
If you have any other specific questions let me know!
Thanks!!

Second guesses about your abilities is a guess too many. Why waste your time pondering the abilitity and end up with a R77 in your pipe. ;).

Hmm, is this true? Some pilots are loud, up-front and think they're 'all that'. He will think he knows he is the best. Others are quiet, reserved and play their own abilities down. He will be confident but will also wonder if his opponent is better. Given the best training, both can get the job done equally well.
I suppose no-one knows who will be the great pilot until they have to deliver that weapon when bullets are flying past the canopy.

Confidence and cockiness are two seperate things:bigsmile: I agree with being confident about your abilities just not cocky.:thumb:

Problem is you must know your own abilities, Fly with in them and definately try to increase them. Keeping your abilities close and always trying to extend them is the key i believe. Let others realise your abilities by blowing their ass out of the sky :guns:

Thanks for your reply Haole, I appreciate it. Especially from an F16 pilot who loves Aces High!
I'll have more questions soon. But one quick one;
Have you always wanted to be a fighter pilot, or did the situation just, 'present itself'? Personally, since i was 3 or so i've wanted to fly fighter jets,, just curious.
Respect,

Respect, :smile:I've known since I was a child that I wanted to fly. I know a few people decide at the last minute to do it, but a majority of the people that I know have ALWAYS wanted to fly since being a kid. Once you decide that you want to do it, you must be 100% dedicated to do so. If you go on in to any other way you wont make it.
Being a fighter pilot is a life long committment. You are constantly studying and having to learn new things. Very rewarding though!
Cheers!
