Hey Haole,
I seen a photo the other day (forget the URL) but it said it was a 157th viper during OIF with the new CCIP configuration? Can you explain this?
Also it had JDAMs maybe 31s? and it also had a targetting pod? Do you use the targetting pod with JDAMs? Or was it still there for some other use and not removed?
Thanks in advance
Marvin

IIRC, the CCIP is the new upgrade standard for all USAF "C" Vipers.

Marvin CCIP incorporates so many things into the F-16 it would take an hour to post them here, the meat and potatoes follows.
Helmet Mounted Sighting software, IFF interrogator(lil bird slicers directly in front of the canopy, no more calling an F-15 to see what the Viper has locked), Sniper Pod capability, the MMC which replaces about 15 avionics parts around the nose of the aircraft with (modular mission computer, I think thats what its called, I deal in acronyms :) which is a large box which holds circuit cards. The beauty of this is.... nowadays in a non-CCIP jet when we have say a radar problem which points to the PSP we open a panel, replace the PSP, set up cones to not fry some poor dudes nuts and run up the radar, with the cards all we will have to do is run a check on all the circuit cards via a small cpu we use on the aircraft, identify the faulty component card, reprogram it with said cpu and viola, FMC jet with no follow on ops checks. Worst case a card goes bad and we must pull a couple of screws and replace the card, thats not bad at all. Block 50/52 are getting this first followed by our 40's. Its a great mod that will require some bug fixing but it will make our aircraft much easier to generate and much more lethal/safe in the air. Grab
Disclaimer hehe, I have never worked a CCIP jet but worked closely with a guy who ran the program through its early paces and this is what I remember from our beer drenched conversations of Vipers

Marvin On to the targeting pods you saw. JDAMS as you no do not need a targeting pod(thinking it was prolly a LightningII pod) however, targeting pods are still used to get a better visual of targets, we found in Iraqi Freedom that it was preferred to use them in all but say CAS missions where we got the coords directly from under fire troops. By the way I'm an F-16 Crew Chief in the Reserves, I've done 9 years active duty, and now in my civilian job I work at the Depot that is performing this mod, its very impressive to say the least!!

Ah thanks, I just learned by looking at this link that CCIP stands for Common Configuration Implementation Program and not Continuously Computed Impact Point :red:
Couldn't they have found a less confusing name for that program?
