I know we've discussed dynamic weather.

I know we've touched on it, but I can't remember for sure if it's been discussed. How do people feel about the idea of a game clock? Lighting conditions could change with the game time - so you could fly out at sunset (reddish sky), and by the time you return to base, it's night (by that I mean dark sky, runway lights). Maybe the game clock could run a little faster than real time, as I expect flights wouldn't be that long.

This is a good question, as Falcon modled this when the SP2 was released. I think this is at a core fore the graphics team. Not only a "time of day", but the seasons, the area (location) v's the time of the year will be implimented. 8)

Why dont we go all out and see if real time static weather can be implimented. :) Those of you who have FS2004 know what I mean.

Before every mission, weather statistics are downloaded from Jeppsen and loaded into the game.

Real world weather for a real world sim. :)

The real world weather is what I love the most from Microsoft Flight Sim. :D

But, can it be implemented in Fighter Ops?

Hey Terry,
Real weather might create some code, and or multiplayer problems. I think this was discussed before when real weather was proposed on a different thread. I'm personally for it, but this could cause difficulties with the in-game process of trying to keep the graphics refreshed. :| Also, 6some missions could be generated with Bad/Foul weather as a level of difficulty for the mission! 8)

It might bring some problems to light, but it sounds like a good idea.

Well, your absolutly correct. If I were to think about it, I would probably come up with the standpoint that it is a waste of time to impliment in the release version of FO. Yes, it is cool and would add woody factor  , but not much else.

To ensure there would be no conflicting problems, and all multiplayer users would have the same weather for 'fairness', it would have to be server controlled. This would be just one more thing to load up on the server to bog it down. Of course, it would only need to be laoded at the beginning of the mission.

It would definitly have to be a selectable feature as mission creators will want to model different weather for different missions.

Was just a passing thought... but a waste of time.

Err... Not that I mind, but how did this turn into a weather discussion? :?

Anyway, if both ideas were implemented, my point of view is that both time and weather should be controlled from the server during multiplayer games - the same way that realism settings (stalls, wind currents, etc) should be.

And by the way have you noticed that sometimes the weather transforms the skys like a beautifull painting ?
I think this "artistic" view of weather should be implemented on FO.
Factors like random cloud forms , lights, reflections should be most detailed and beautiful (even in bad weather...)

The game clock sounds like an good idea Antler. It will just have to be controlled by the server as Terry said in fairness towards other pilots. becuase it will bring up problems if it is controlled on client side.
For e.g: Me and you are on the same flight and same team, now the time on your side can be 10:00 the morning with sunny skies all the way, while on my side it can be 23:00 the evening with thunderstorms. You will ask me if i see something and i will tell you no i can't coz it's pitch black outside in the meantime your barking at me coz i'm not keeping formation.

But overall the game clock is a good idea. In single player it can be controlled by the player and in MP it must be controlled by the server.
