I only have one question that i have directed at many game developers but none have answered me. I was hoping that since this game is in the developing stages ,and the devs are taking input , that maybe they could answer me one question and it would mean the world to me. If you havent noticed almost every game put on the shelves dealing with flight simulation has either the F-15 or 16 as the frontline fighter and im not saying that isnt a good idea because those birds are Americas frontline fighters. My question is what would be so hard about making a game that put the F-14 tomcat as flyable aircraft as well? Many people have responded saying the two seaters are impossible to make realistic, the tomcat is not a frontline fighter, the tomcat is being decommisioned(and yes i know the tomcat is being sent to the bone yard but the F-4 is already in the bone yard and janes USAF had no problem putting the phantom in their arsenal of aircraft), i even had someone say that the tomcat is not a modern fighter(that one hurt by the way). Over the years the tomcat in all its glory has taken a back seat to other fighters including the hornet when it comes to quality, in depth, military flight simulation games. I might be blinded by my love for the tomcat but I know my military aircraft and it would be a shame to let the tomcat go to the yards without at least one set of developers that put the idea to the test and gave the consumers at least one chance to at least vote on the idea of having one game dedicated to the F-14 squadrons that are slowly but surely going to the yards soon..... no matter what Ill never forget them. Some of them are so special we recognize their squadron logos anywhere like the jolly rogers VF-84 now its VF-103 skull and crossbones, VF-143 pukin dogs, VF-154 Black Knights, VF-14 Tophatters oldest and the boldest, VF-213 Blacklions,VF-2 bountyhunters the fighting two, VF-124 gunfighters, VF-41 black Aces ... man these squadrons have history and in the tomcats hey day movies like TopGun were born and suddenly everyone realized hey the navy has fighter pilots too. I guess im a little stuck on the days of old but you have to admit the tomcat and hornet were the pride of the navy in their day it just sucks that im the only one who feels this way.

Hi Jontex,

This question has in fact been answered a couple of times, the reason the F14 won't be one of the initial aircraft is that including the F14 in a realistic manner would involve fully modelling carrier operations etc also. This will certainly come with naval ops, the initial release though will focus on USAF aircraft, for several reasons, including the fact that we have the most experience with them, have loads of data, and we can get a product out there quicker and then worry about naval, and the many other modules we will be working on.

Front seat/Back seat operations is certainly not going to be a problem, this will be implented for both the F16D and F15E.

Is it really true that we're going to get a Tomcat?

:D :D :D :D :D

hehe, I didn't quite say that, I said carrier operations (which is the biggest hurdle to getting a tomcat) is certain to come with naval ops, so you can draw your own conclusions  . We need to get fighter ops out the door first though, so no promises at this point.

To clear up a few logistical points in the post:

Janes USAF put the F-4 in it because one of their major campaigns was the Vietnam campaign. Same reason the "Thud" I think it was, was in there as well. If it were not for this campaign being included, they would have left those aircraft out.

The F-14 itself is a disappearing bird. Many of the 14 squadrons are already being turned over into the "Super Hornet" squadrons. In fact, I beleive VF-102 is already being transfered over (they were with my squadron (VMFA-251 [see my sig pic]) on the Kennedy and Roosevelt.

While it is unfortunante, it was a good aircraft in its day, there really is no need for the US Navy to retain a long range interceptor, especially at the cost of its current maintenance situation. With the USAF getting the F-22, and the US ability to place land based aircraft darn near anywhere, it isn't needed.

However, all of that being said, I look forward to Naval Ops and the F-14. Actually, I cannot wait for the F/A-18C as she is my baby. :)

Of course, I cannot wait for the two seater ability in Fighter Ops either.

It would be great if the F-14 is implemented in Naval Ops.

Lol, I think the F-14 is so well known, I couldn't imagine a Naval Ops without it. When/if it does arrive, I hope we'll be able to operate them out of airbases, and not be restricted to carriers. :punk:

That would be great too, but won't you be flying the Hornet?

If/when the Hornet comes out, then I'll fly it! ^_^

It won't be out in the initial release of FO though AFAIK, so I guess I won't be flying anything then? :-p
