View Full Version : Paper manual
One of the points where Falcon surpased the rest of sims ever released was its outstanding binder paper manual. A manual I still enjoy reading from time to time. It was not only detailled on the "game" aspects but walked you though on the plane systems, procedures and missions like no other manual have ever done.
The stakes are very high, and on a world of pdf manuals, I really hope that Fighter ops come with a good paper manual.
Other possibility would be that some company created a "deluxe" manual such it have been done in LOMAC with updates and upgrades that can be purchased aside the game.

Wichever way, do not make us print 400 pages on our home printers. The ink and paper cost is very high and quality is never the same.
One of the difference between arcade sims and realistic sims is a good paper manual. I know it increases the publisher costs so I suggest you make it an option to buy, but please do not let us down on this.

I would also love it very much if they include a paper manual, a nice thick one. But we'll just have to see what happens. :drink:

I'd be willing to pay a little more for a good manual, provided that it was worth it. I want something that I can hold, or leave in my lap and refer to while I'm actually flying in the sim. As it's already been mentioned, printing out .pdfs isn't going to cut it if the manual is of reasonable length.
Sure, you could alt-tab between the .pdf manual and the sim, but that would get tiresome pretty soon.
A good quality, comprehensive manual is a must IMO.

I just hope they bring out a manual with it.

A good addition would also be Separated kneeboard size, checklists and avionics references as SP docs have. This ones could be printed at home.

Kneeboard fomat please!
As long as the price is reasonable I'll pay extra. Would be nice if included, but costs and profits being as important as they are....
Having a paper manual will not be a consideration for me when buying FighterOps.
However, I feel a top class simulation should have a top class paper manual. If cost is a factor, then sell it as an extra cost option (as suggested above).
Also, I would not hold up release of the game to get the manual right. Rather, I would release the game with a very minimal paper manual. Then, I'd take the time to get the paper manual right. No doubt there would be many complaints about that -- but, if you don't have the time and money to do it right the first time, when will you have additional time and money to do it over.
Yeah, good manual is very helpful, but I thing that is a bad idea to let some other company make "deluxe manual".
Why??
Rico wrote about Lomac printed manual. I thing that this manual is no worth his price. Some of chapters are simply retyped from Flanker 2.0 (2.5?) manual. I know that Lomac is Flanker successor, but there are many diffrences between them. The quality of paper, print and cover is poor. (maby only my copy but I don't think so)
It looks like they simply want get more money for us!
I can pay more for extended manual but must be worth it. Should be as good as Falcon manual, or even better.
Falcon manual is an example that can make a good one.
I didnt want to mean that paying external source manuals is the best option, but it is surely better than having to print 400 pages at homefrom pdf files.
The best course of action would be for Fighter Ops to be released with its good and detailled paper manual like Falcon did.
Yes, I think too. Who can make better manual than people who make sim.
Yes, the manual should be produced by the FighterOps people -- to a very high standard, if it is to cost extra.

I agree, it should be made by the same people who made the sim

A really good book for "training" "instruction" and "how to" use the flight sim is too important
if you forget it the quality go down and the possibility for new player to play with the sim are really reduce !
a flight sim with a hard complexity should have a good manual
look at the sim "Sub Command" no book and it's impossible for a newbee to play with this sim !
and the compagny who product this sim have kill it by the impossibillity for a non proffesionnal tu use it
sorry for my poor english !

I agree with you guys (gals too). I bought the manual for LOMAC but wish it was made by the game makers. Even if they have to sell the manual separately I will buy it. Maybe have the pdf with the plain jane box and put the manual in what they can call the deluxe box.
