I'm an active duty Weapons Loader :military: and have seen just about everything in our unclassified arsenal  and watched lots of live fire ops. Got any good questions, just ask.

Hi wpnssgt,

nice to have you here.

One question I do have is Towed decoys...
The Eurofighter/Gripen/Super Hornet all have towed decoy systems.
But are there plans to equip the F-15/F-16 with anything? Or do they already have them?

Cheers.

P.s. Got any left over munitions you don't need, coz I've got this annoying neighbour....

welcome wpnssgt ! :drink:

I have a few questions :

1- The Aim9X is already in service in the F16 ?
2- Does the above work with the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) ?

F-16s also have the ALE-50 Towed Decoy System

The F-15Cs of the 3rd Fighter Wing at Elmendorf AFB are currently the only Active unit using the AIM-9X with the JHMCS. All other Aircraft are still in testing stages.

....I'm always real cautious about what I bring up in the forums.

Believe it or not, I always look on www.fas.org before I go running off at the mouth (ALE-50 and AIM-9X are both okay as far as I've seen) so as to not get myself in trouble.

Always good running into fellow loaders in the forums though. Have you seen loadtoadz.net or weaponz.net?

There's a guestbook with LOOOOOTS of familiar names on it. I've actually gotten in contact with people I knew years ago off that thing.

No worries on the good stuff, I'm not that priviliged. Besides, I just do alot of reading and cross reference before coming up with info. I work on the Aggressors, I miss working A-10s though.

Ahhh the good stuff. Get to learn all kindsa goodies working up in load barn and in QA.

....the F-16 is alright...but I suuuuure miss the F-111. Nothing like an ICT doing 24 Mk-82s, 2 AIM-9 and full load of chaff and flare...of course on the F-111D that was ALE-28 so it REALLY sucked. The ALE-40/47 is a dream.

Never had the opportunity to work A-10s but I hear it's pertty alright.

Aggressors....trying to think of some people I know down there.

SSgt Andy Deming I think...or maybe he's up in Strike.

Just registered in the weapons board.
"Gunplumber", now thatŽs new :drink: . IŽld like to find out where I can pick up a coin though. I searched where they refferenced but didnŽt see any coins.
I also had to post my best load time of 11:23 F-16C, 3x Mk-82LD, 2x Aim-9m, 510x20mm and getting the pilot to crank the handle rofl.

I have a question for you:

What kind of ammo uses the AC-130 M-102 105 mm howitzer?

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/105mm-ac-130u-990904a.jpg

I mean does it use regu Army shells? or they use specifically designed Airforce shells with different fuses? Do this shells explode before impacting ground?

I have just watched a video of an actual atack of an AC-130 posted on this forum and besides the seconday explosions on vehicles I seen a very "explosive" effects on the 105 mm impacts. I have seen real life 105 mm impacts when I was in Airforce and they were basically exploding and creating snarpel. On this video I saw large and longstanding balls of fire with not much dirt or mud raised or moved on the 105 mm impacts over regular ground (no secondaries).

I am just curious. Hope this is not classifed stuff. I checked FAS and other sources but could not find any info.

As far as I can remember, they use multiple types. I will see if I can find some specifics.

Hi to all you loaders. We sim heads really appreciate you guys bringing a touch of reality to our discussion forums. It's one thing to read about this stuff on FAS and quite another to get the straight poop from experienced hands.

Thanks again and welcome to FigherOps,

Claude

Hi there and hello to everyone (I'm a new-registered user) I have a question for you wpnssgt:

what is the most powerful non-nuclear explosive used in USAF?
Thank you for the answer

wpnssgt
04-29-2004, 17:14
most powerful non-nuclear?

It used to be the BLU-82/B Daisy Cutter which is a 15,000 lb GP bomb

The new GBU-43/B MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Burst) weighs in around 22,000 lbs and is also GPS guided.

Haven't seen or heard anything factual about the GBU-43 being used in combat, but the BLU-82 was used in Afganistan.

I saw both the video and FLIR video of the BLU-82 in OEF..... I cannot find words to describe.... ok... yeah I guess I can.... FREAKING AWESOME!

These may be questions you CAN'T answer. If so, that's fine.

What are the SRM burn times of the AIM-7, AIM-9, AIM-9X, and AIM-120?

What are their max possible velocities assuming they're launched at 600 KIAS and their course is pure pursuit from behind on a non-maneuvering target? Straight line flight.

I presume they all self destruct if they don't hit anything within a specified amount of time. How long is that?

When munitions are jettisoned rather than launched, are they rendered inoperable by some system, or is the impact with the ground expected to wreck them? In theory, if these munitions were jettisoned from a plane on the ground and landed on cushions, and took no damage from being jettisoned, would they require any repairs in order to be reused?

...but here's some answers to SOME of the questions in here.

"When munitions are jettisoned rather than launched, are they rendered inoperable by some system, or is the impact with the ground expected to wreck them?" - No and yes. When jettisoned, the weapons are just released either unarmed, or still on their launcher/rack. The F-15 can even go so far as to jettison it's entire pylon. I seem to recall something about launching Mav's unguided to jettison, but that just doesn't sound right as the missile and launcher can both be punched together.

"In theory, if these munitions were jettisoned from a plane on the ground and landed on cushions, and took no damage from being jettisoned, would they require any repairs in order to be reused?" - Yeah...but the odds....

"What are the SRM burn times of the AIM-7, AIM-9, AIM-9X, and AIM-120? " - I could tell you.........nah. But seriously...that' s just one of those things better left unknown.

So what do you guys know about OPFOR weapons/systems? If you're on an agressor squad, does that mean that you have (basic) knowledge about those russian weapon systems as well?

Actually the Daisy Cutter was used in the Gulf war. It was used several times and in one particular time led to an SAS team suiting up in NBC kit as they thought that it was a Nuke.

Whats up all you "load toads". To start off with I'm AMMO, so its nice to see that there might be some friendly competition here! I just joined this site. I've been in the AF for 8 years, all AMMO!!! I.Y.A.A.Y.A.S.!!!

Since you all know you can't be as good as us I see that you made up your own site (www.ammosucks.com (http://www.ammosucks.com/), and no I didn't go to it). I saw some stuff about the decoys, so to let you all know there is classified stuff about them so becareful on what you say, and other items as well. Talk to you all later.
