So I watched and read. For over 2 years. DLing files and making my was F4 just right doing massive upgrades and going to the Falcon dances weekly. I read, I read the happenings between the developers (SP, FF, BMS) forums, the people and Claude and G2I. Ocassionally I would comment on what was happening like all of us. I never accused Claude of anything. Nor did I support him, I took a middle of the road stance not knowing the personalities involved nor the potential outcome, don't need to burn bridges like some members of various forums.
Last week like all of you I read no F4-OIR etc. I also read about Fighter Ops (FOPS and the new flitesim. Again Claude and G2I are involved. So that brings me to a couple of questions.
1. Most of you have been involved with F4 and the various developers including FF, SP, BMS and G2I (Claude) far longer than I have and I assume these groups overlap to some degree. Q: With all of what has been said in the last 2 years how can you support G2I in this new venture after all the infighting with G2I over F4- OIR-Gold-V5 and the failed delivery of OIR etc?
2. The indication is that we will see FOPS in the 4th Qtr 2004. Riiiight! And bees have feathers while birds make honey. Q: Where will the prexisiting code come from for a 4th Qtr release date? It can't be the Falcon engines and code, that's owned by Atari. FF Data edits are also owned by Atari. Skins and Objects BTW are the property of the creators, like artwork unless signed over to Atari. Q: Can Claude and Co. write a few million lines of executable code in 9 months, not to mention data edits and testing?
3. I'm sure there are a couple of U.S. attornies in the F4 community. Maybe you can help to keep F4 alive this way, pro-bono of course for the F4 community. Q: Would a couple of you be willing to tackle Atari by starting with letters to the CEO and a few dozen others at Atati (got to hit 'em all at once to to show wer'e serious) to find out the following:
. Is Atari going to do anything with Falcon even if the planned release date is a couple of years away (F5)?
2a. Since there are a limited number of us to sell a new product to, would they be interested in selling Falcon outright to the F4 community? We would have to form a company even if it was non-profit? Maybe even sell shares to hire programmers, and Yes Claude, you to. Shareholder could be the beta testers and when ready we could release it. There is no profit motive here only F4 development. This would also allow oversite in the devolopment as no single individual would have major control and better development standards and conformity, G2I+BMS @ SP+FF instead of 4 overlapping groups and as now.
2b. Would Atari be willing to hire the current F4 staff incuding Claude and the other teams and be willing to provide supervision on this. After all, you guys know more than anybody about Falcon and I think it would be better if Claude were supervised as that would provide an accountability as in 2a.
3. To try to find another way to get our hands on the code (leaglly) for further development?
The reason I brought this up is I finally tried Illness-2, Limic?, limaC? LO-MAC (can't even get it to run), MS Flite scumulator and Junk Fighter 5. Not one of them even comes close to what Falcon was in version 1.0 much less what it is today. The only other Flitesim that was even close was EF-2000 and I can't find that anymore. So I think the only way to keep flying and to protect ourselves and our passion is to get control of Falcon itself and provide supervision, proper supervision over the programmers, artsts, etc and further developement since this is way too important to many of us to just let it just drop by the wayside (for me it's major stress relief to do this and cheaper than real flying, I can also do this after a few beers and not worry about the results or the overnight no-fly rule).
In light of todays bussiness practices and the litiginous society we live in I don't see why a takeover of Falcon, any takeover, wouldn't be possible. It's up to the law-dogs to see if there is a way do accomplish the goal of keeping Falcon in the virtual sky.
Camping, playing, exploring the desert can be dangerous, more dangerous than other similar types of outdoor activities, especially in the summer (120+43+ F/C). My staff and I have to depend on each other for the safety and lives of our guests and ourselves. At this point in time WE the Falcon community are doing the same thing to fly today.
Atari sits in our campsite like a rattlesnake waiting to strike. Intentions unknown. the question is: What are we going to do to protect ourselves and what are you willing to do to protect yourself.
Atari like the rattlesnake is not interested, its' only purpose in life it to eat, sleep and screw. Are we going to let them screw us? Or ore we going to have Falcon snake for dinner?
Keep Falcon Flying!!
