Buck,
I don't know what is your feeling about this, but by studying the market in the game industry some common points have always been missing in flight sim, so why not be the first?
Take a car sim for instance. Most of the games proposed on the market usually offer the player the possiblity to have two modes. One realistic and one arcade. What are the differences?
Well the arcade part is very simple, with very few choices and few things you can customize, like settings. So why not include in your sim, a very accessible part like that, for newbies, or casual players, where you can basically choose your plane, your weapons and go dogfight wherever you want on the planet.
On the contrary the realisic part usually require from the player to pass some licences in order to unlock, cars, parts, et cetera... It would mean for you, that if you wanna be an F15 pilot, you will have to pass the F15 pilot test, which would require to know answers on questions about the instruments, the procedures do figures... If you take the RIO exam, you'll only be able to be an RIO, not a pilot and vice versa.
Could be a bit boring, but I noticed that die-hard fans always beg for more realism. In the RL (Real Life) there is now way an F15 pilot, will be authorized to pilot an F16. Indeed, though similar technology equipe the jets, the flight dynamics are sky high different, and some of the instruments as well.
So I stronghly believe that releasing a FighterSchool like Colorado Spring, or TopGun as the core program would very much satisfy the players. Then as an addon, the entire earth theaters as you had previously planned. Of course the Arcad part could be Red flag and Top Gun with some good shooting.
For fans learning the basics, the flight model, dos and donts, would certainly give them the feeling to be for the first time ever in a flight sim a "gonnabe" instead of a regular "wannabe".
You wanna flight the F15... Well sort your neurons alphabeticaly, because you will have to deserve it!
Doing so, would defintely lengthen the gameability and the realism I think.
Cordially,
Alex
