Probably way too early for this question, but I couldn't resist.
Is there any idea on which aircraft will be featured in this new project? Talking about flyable aircraft that is.

Also is the name of the sim Fighter Ops or is that still up for discussion also?

Yeah, still early stages, though as mentioned high on the list is F16 A/B/C/D, F15 C/D/E, A-10. Again these are not set in concrete however would most likely be the first aircraft modelled. We have also discussed adversary aircraft such as Mig29/Su-27 as being a high priority. These decisions are a little way off, and you guys will hear about these as soon as they are made.

Fighter Ops is still a working title, most likely at some stage the community will be given the opportunity to suggest names, and a poll could be set up to pick the name out of a short-list of the best suggestions.

Sounds good Buckshot. thanks for the info.

What about chances of a naval aircraft and carrier ops? or would that be outside the scope of things at this point. To coin a phrase from Stormin "No Promises"

Well long term nothing is outside the scope. Of course this is going to be a huge project, and honestly it'll never be "finished" in that there will always be new additions in the works etc, much like Falcon has been. At least in this way additions can be more regulated so that the community don't have the issues of having to pick and choose mods that might each have thier own strengths and weeknesses, rather a dedicated team all working toward the same goal.

Naval operations has already been mentioned as one of the addons, and I would expect it to be fairly high on the list after ground based figher operations are released. Obviously it's way too early to talk time frames at this point.

I guess my whining does have effect then  :drink:

Have you guys thought of which version (time period) of the A-10 you are going to model?

What about front seat/ back seat coop play? Any provision for this in the works?

that is something that Claude wants in the sim also but not sure at what stage it could be in so keep fingers crossed they add it

Yes, we've mentioned this a number of times already, it's definately on the list and will be one of the first things incorporated into the sim.

Guys, I'm currently working on an "FAQ" for a lot of the questions that are being repeated quite a bit so that you will have one place to go to find the answers, so stay tuned, it'll probably take a few days to collate and check all the questions and answers.

Now come on Buckshot, you of all people know a FAQ isn't going to keep us from asking the same questions over and over. LOL

lol, yeah I know, but at least I can just have a "Read the FAQ" statement I can copy and paste :drink:

Hi,

Great site and forums.

This is not a criticism but I was wondering why the decision of only having US aircrafts to fly for the player in the its 1.0 release? Will that be like that for subsequent releases or not?

Unless there is no MP in the first release, I would find it strange to only have US aircrafts to fly for the blue and red teams....

Thanks,

I agree with you mon ami...Still the sim is in it`s very early stage, but sounds legitimate to ask.

Right - unless we're talking COOP mode in MP just for release 1.0

Are you talking about 'Lock On: Modern Air Combat'?

Well as far as flyable aircraft are concerned...

Both LOMAC and Fighter Ops feature the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
Both LOMAC and Fighter Ops feature the F-15C.

Fighter Ops features the F-15E, LOMAC does not.
Fighter Ops features the F-16C, LOMAC does not.
Fighter Ops features the F-16D, LOMAC does not.

LOMAC features the Su-27B, Fighter Ops does not.
LOMAC features the Su-33D, Fighter Ops does not.
LOMAC features the Su-25, Fighter Ops does not.
LOMAC features the MiG-29A, Fighter Ops does not.
LOMAC features the MiG-29C, Fighter Ops does not.

You can view a list of flyable aircraft that LOMAC features here (http://www.lo-mac.com/aircraft_flyable.php).

You can read about the flyable aircraft that Fighter Ops will feature here (http://fighterops.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14).

As you can see, the list is far from exactly the same. :)

Thanks Ixian spot on. As has been repeatedly stated also, the list of aircraft is only the initial list, ACC/Fighter Ops is not going to be your standard "get it out the door then seeya later" type deal. This is going to be an ongoing process much the same as the community has done with Falcon over the past 7 years. The difference with Fighter Ops is that there will be no limits to the scope of what work we are able to do. As we have seen with Falcon the only major improvements have come when exe edits are allowed, however due to the fact that they are fully controlled by the whims of the IP holder, Atari, these developments have only come in fits and spurts, and a major amount of work (viper ops) never even able to be released to the public. Right now we have a lot of manhours again potentially lost in the latest BMS work.

With Fighter Ops we will have a IP holder willing to work with the community to allow the full scope of modifications, add-ons, enhancements, etc to be done to the product. It's the first time the community has really had the opportunity to create the game they want with no limitations.
