Hey WOPPA,

I moved your post to the General Discussion forum since it wasn't really Technical Support related (that forum is sort of useless right now hehe, not even sure why I made it *shrug*).

But back to your question. It depends on what you want to do. I couldn't help you with any coding stuff but if you wanted to learn how to code, I'd hop onto Amazon.com and pick up books or something.

If you are interested in 3d modeling, then that's something I have some knowledge in. 3D modeling applications can be very very pricey but luckily, both Alias and Discreet have "free" versions. Both Maya PLE (Alias) and GMax (Discreet) are free modeling programs you can download off their website. www.discreet.com and www.aliaswavefront.com. There really is no best, each have their pros and cons. Personally, I like GMaxs poly modeling tools better than Mayas. Each come with tutorials you can do then from there, search on google for more tutorials.

If you're really serious about getting into 3d modeling, you can pick up one of the high end 3d programs, such as Maya 5.0, 3dsmax, etc. If you get any of those, check out www.3dbuzz.com and download their VTMs. Those training videos are VERY VERY good and will get you from being a complete newbie, to modeling a pretty detailed alien head (if you do the 3dsmax videos). These programs cost a lot of money (thousands of dollars) but if you are a student, you can get them at student discount prices for pretty cheap (in the hundereds) but they cannot be used for commercial work.

Cheers eluzion i'll look into it for sure...

yeah 3d modelling would be more my thing as I've been a kit builder in the past and have a good keen eye for detail on models :0)

We have a coder in our family so one is enough and i don't think it's my kind a thing..

(& hopefully bring out some models in the future no promises but gonna have a go for sure)

Is damage modeling to 3d models being thought of for this new sim ?

what sort of levels of detail are going to be used ??

IE : making the internal structure of the airframe then the outer skin onto that then texture ?

sort of like BOB models from madox....

well i was placing it a general question for all departments of this development really so people could get access nice a quick to things they might want to check out in these early stages of thought on it..

if the community is to be involved and want to they are going to need to know where to get info on everything to do with it I guess so just getting ready you for that...

but we do need a base to start from so we can look at the standards and levels being looked for the sim..

and like most people i try to keep on topic what ever the thread or forum I'm on so clever people catch on ;0)

and as there ain't a dev forum this post got moved here so i would recommend that one gets sorted asap

Regards as Ever

yeah well if i want a joke I'd have asked for one...

I go down the pub for my fun not a flight sim forum thats trying to get somewhere and all i want is to try and keep on topic for a change..

anything wrong with that ?

if this sim wants to be taken seriously the forums are going to be serious too other wise the rot will set in from the start and you'll get the usual banter which fair enough is a community but it ain't don't get the sim anywhere by taking the piss then moderators backin it up.

it's a good job i ain't a noob to all this ain't it

there's only one frugalsworld !!!!!!!!

DUDE then maybe you better learn how to post a topic and for that matter the body wasnt even clear.

so if you want to be serious maybe it shouldnt be in the :GENERAL" forum first and next maybe you should make a serious and clear topic and body of your msg

cheers eluzion for the understanding

tdbone read the posts and you'll get a better understanding on where i posted it and where it was posted it was in context my friend so get off my case and have a big cup of shut the **** up

katz true humour is good i never said it wasn't but in threads that are for fun not when people are trying to get decent answers from you guy's.

but when fun comes instead of anwsers you wonder just how serious the project is.

Tdbone cheers for the help with the ladies n stuff you obviously neeeded help yourself at one time :-p

i have to disagree with you as a little light humour in a thread can break the tension :-p

Personally I understood exactly what he meant.

You can do other things as well.

Terrain and theater work for instance. You want Norwayand Sweden to be represented then where are the bases, what do they fly, what SAMs and other units do they have?
where is Sweden, whats the place look like?
etc. etc.
This is a mixture of research and modeling (3D models, textures, map data etc.)

There is data work.
How many hardpoints does a Gripen have?
What gets carried on what hardpoint?
This is mostly research, but can include modelling and texturing as well)

Mybe even coding help.
If you are a DirectX controller guru then maybe you could help sorting out multiple joystick/rudder/mfd issues.
You will need to know how to program though, which is not an easy task.

I think the main answer is "What do you want to do?"

WOPPA
03-04-2004, 05:23
it works both way's as there was no tension to start with if you see what i mean ?

yeah well i dunno I'm up for most things stuntie but will have to start somewhere..

to do a theater where would you recommend starting ?

IE : software and so on for sorting terrain meshes and so on with elevation data ?

then how we gonna texture that ?

will G2i be putting out tools like what codec did for F4 ?

yup but i also dont appreciate being told off if i make a joke in a thread even a serious thread as it isnt hurting anything if its a oncer but if it was continued through the whole thread.......which is what this arguement is doing, then its pointless if you get my meaning

WOPPA
03-04-2004, 05:42
also would i be better looking at making things for MSFS or for falcon to help with the new sim..

terrain and 3d models and such ?

I have no axe to grind Katz and sorry if i sounded off but sometimes your just not in the mood and women should know that....

i dont take offense at sexist remarks im thick skinned and not a womens lib advocate so not gonna jump on you for any of your remarks............i know about not being in the mood for stuff as i am like that at times too especially when tired (guys dont even think of reading something into that remark :D ) ..........so if i say anything that sounds off just let me know and will either apologise or rephrase it if required

The most important thing before anyone can start to contribute will be for G2 to provide us with some kind of SDK documentation. This will be required in order for anyone to understand the inner workings of course, scenery format, etc. At the moment, we have nothing to work on. Starting off learning some kind of modelling program will be great of course, but like many people mentioned here, a lot of information is required.

Don't know if any of the mods can comment on when any information will be available. There is still a lot of secrecy around here.

woppa my friend.

if you didnt like the humor i tried to put into your "SO SERIOUS" thread you should have just skipped over it.

or maybe you should not have left your self wide open to that joke i put.

i think you can go straight to hell (thats not a personal attack) its just a view.

or maybe better yet you can go postal on someone.

i think you could never have anyone in the same house you are in with your attitude.

i have broke no rules and i will post in your threads to your "TOPICS" with anything i want that is topic related.

your topic and even the body of your post was very vague

i didnt read the other peoples post i just read yours and hit reply.

sure i knew what you meant but if you are gonna get all "SERIOUS" then you seriously better learn how to post right so people can take you serious.

so go make your models or whatever (i never knew that was such an intense job)

maybe you should try and do what i do for a living and actually have other peoples lives in your hands

AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
work on lear jets
and have worked on P-51D mustangs

that is serious work where you can not afford to screw up (not even one time) and you know what we still have time to joke around the hanger.

so lay off with your "THIS IS SO SERIOUS CRAP" and go take a valuumm

Its not secrecy its just not all of us are up to speed on whats going on yet and we are covered by NDA's so cant say anything yet even if we did know everything
