Ladies & Gentlemen,

Just to let you know that TOP GUN 2 is on ramp start:
- Funding: CHECK,
- Paramount Studios: CHECK,
- Script: WAITING, Paramount is trying to get Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) to write it,
- ETA: UNKNOWN (but uneducated guess = +18 months).

Btw, this is my first post.

Cheers!

No matter how good it'll be, it'll suck simply due to the fact that there won't be any F-14's... (unless they'll do it all digitally)

If it all goes well, the students should be tactical hotshots and not just bunch of Knucks "knuckle heads". and not over done like Stealth.

The problem is that all the things that made Topgun what it is are all cliches now. Plus I dont think Ive ever seen a modern movie that used fighter jets that wasnt brutally cheesy... Still hoping for the best though.

I saw this when living in France. I cant say that I understood it all, but I remember not being overly impressed. Though, I cant remember anything from it, so maybe Im wrong...

I must admit that I am not the biggest fan of french movies but sky fighters wasn't too bad. In fact i was impressed that a fighter movie could be done without the terrible misuse of topgun cliches... I mean think about JAG or Pensacola

IMHO, "Sky Fighters" is crap except for the high-quality imagery (meaning script, acting is bad). I still prefer "Top Gun", or "Behind Enemy Lines 1" ("Wilson" launch / F18 cat launch / missile chase / ejection scenes are just great). I wonder why this movie is barely quoted by aviation fans.

You are telling us that TOP GUN had top notch script and acting? :rofl
Don't get me wrong, like most of us in here I was hooked on aviation through top gun, but now I can realize that as a movie it was close to crap. Behind Enemy Lines is pretty good though.

You are playing with syllogisms: I still prefer TOP GUN because in overall it is a better movie than Sky Fighters, but it does not imply TP has a very good script or acting. Even then, you should know what is Tarantino opinion about the underlying gay topic in this movie, so it may not be a so plain script about airplanes.

Behind Enemy Lines: I reached the fan level of downloading on my computer via Youtube the best scenes of this movie.

The problem with a Top Gun II is that there are way too many preconceived notions coming into this title. It's not going to be able to live up to it's own hype. I'd prefer someone do a movie based on Red Flag instead. It's enugh different not to fail as a rehashed theme.

Agreed.

Also, wasn't there an utterly ridiculous missile chase scene in Behind Enemy Lines? Or am I thinking of something else?

Ridiculous: YES (missiles vs. aircraft speeds are totally wrong / distance between 2 missiles while not being launched simultaneously), but...
Entertaining: YES, it's the best missile chase movie scene I know

I lost interest in Behind Enemy Lines once the Wilson ejected, but yeah wasn't bad. I prefer STEALTH................you know STEALTH? With Jamie Fox fresh of Charles oscar win? Stealth??? Anybody???

Kidding of course, Ridley Scott is attached to TOP GUN 2, that's huge. Black Hawk Down was probably one of the most beautiful looking, sounds, edited war films ever.

We'll have to see....that fangirl to twilight reference made me laugh though, that was good!

Tony Scott wants TopGun II to be about USAF UCAV pilots. (hot shot hackers)

Hopefully the UAV idea doesn't go ahead. The best thing they could do is sort of do it similar to the original, but perhaps about a modern day deployment. Don't fret about the lack of F-14; you'll all but forget the aluminium cloud existed when the Super Hornet trumps it. The opening scene should usher in the new era by showing bfm between a Tomcat and a Hornet, the latter outclassing it and paving the way for the next gen of pilots that the movie focuses on.

Epic.

Exactly... and it was bad. REALLY bad.

(was called Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag, and the only good thing was that I got sorta "real flying feeling" when I watched it in the iMax dome in San Diego.)

I think the whole idea of Top Gun II is BAD! I saw Top Gun as a teen in the 80s without any real references. I loved the F-14 and some of the flying.... but the cheese factor is strong in it! The only way I would want to see it brought back is if Tom Cruise is instructing for an aggressor squadron or something... even then, I don't think it's a good idea.

The idea of hot shot UCAV hackers is ridiculous!!! Plain and simple... unless you are simple! That would be as bad as Firewall or NCIS where they break through multiple levels of security in a couple of key strokes.

That's just my thoughts though.

I'm with you on that too, TOPGUN 2 should be about Topgun Instuctors at Fallon with Cmdr Pete Mitchell showing young hotshots how its done. We've seen what the student goes through... now lets see why they are "the best of the best". Most people that love combat aircraft play sims... do we really want a big screen movie about what "we do" in our spare time?

BU_Terrier
11-04-2010, 21:23
I agree; if they have to do it, Pete at Fallon is the only thing I would be interested in. I work in information assurance (security), no offense to any pilots; but most true "hackers" are not going to be pilots. It's not that I think pilots can't be hackers; however, very few true hackers would be interested in becoming pilots especially when there's Cyber command. If they go with that premise that UCAV pilots are hackers... it's going to break down into something ridiculous like Firewall.

Tony Scott "I don't want to do a re-hash or remake, I was thinking about USAF drone pilots flying their Hitech aircraft and partying all night."

hmmm I think the popcorn will have more flavour:confused:
